A judge, or arbiter of justice, is a lead who presides over a court of law, either alone or as part of a panel of judges. The powers, functions, method of appointment, discipline, and training of judges vary widely across different jurisdictions. The judge is like an umpire in a game and conducts the trial impartially and in an open court. The judge hears all the witnesses and any other evidence presented by the parties of the case, assesses the credibility of the parties, and then issues a ruling on the matter at hand based on his or her interpretation of the law and his or her own personal judgement. In some jurisdictions, the judge's powers may be shared with a jury, although this practice is starting to be phased out in some regions. In Inquisitorial systems of criminal investigation, the judge is an 'examining magistrate', but may not be the trial judge. From Wikipedia under the

Answered by wartz - Sun Jan 18 16:21:24 2009 Can a California small claims court judge order someone to abide by a contract? Q. I have to sue someone and I'm confident about my case. If possible, I'd prefer to sue in small claims rather than superior. The judgment will be under $7500 so that's in my favor, but I want the judge to order the defendant to leave an account that is rightfully mine. Can a judge ONLY enforce a financial penalty or do they have leeway to force someone to comply with certain contractual obligations? But it would be simpler to get a judgment for the money & try and collect. Best of Luck Answered by T - Mon Jul 19 19:38:27 2010 What is the process for accused informing judge of identity of the informant? Anyone know the process at court?
Q. Does anyone know the whole process for the accused where he has been "set up" by an informant? At initial hearing (for plea) a document was given to Judge and Barrister asked him to consider a certain point. Judge understood. Think police have to disclose their evidence (name of informant etc). Not sure at what point anything is done. Please help! Thanks!
