How does the respiratory system connect to other bodily systems?
Q. I'm doing a science project, and talking about how Pulmonologoy and the respiratory system relates to other bodily system. I've already found info on the Digestive and and Cardiology system, but I'm at a loss for how it relates to the Endocrine, Excretory and Nervous systems. If you know any or all, please answer! Thanks so much!
Asked by Gracie - Sat Apr 18 19:12:25 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. nervous system: there are nerves that enervate the diaphragm (and thoracic muscles), which are critical to muscular manipulation of the lung volume. Endocrine: see renin-angiotensin system. Excretory: perhaps the surfactant excretions that decrease surface energies, so that the lung doesn't collapse onto itself.

What is the difference between a univeristy system and a state university system?
Q. Many states have a university system and a state university system. For example, University of California and California State University. University of North Carolina and NC State. OU and OSU. I understand that they are two different systems. But what distinguishes the two? Is there a distinguishing factor other than that they are simply administered under separate jurisdictions? Even though the University of [State] system is usually larger, that is not always the case. Do all of the University of [State] systems have something in common, and do all the State University systems have something in common?

How to arm a home security system?
Q. We have a security system that isn't fully functional due to issues with the poor installation but we would still like to be able to arm it at night. Does anyone know how to simply turn on the chimes? No need to fully arm it so police or fire are notified (not like they get notified anyway since the system isn't functioning yet we pay), just want the noise if a door or window is opened. System is a Honeywell. Oh yeah, NEVER buy from Firstline Security out of Colorado. They take your monthly payments, stick you with a system that doesn't work, leave you with a defunct phone line and tell you to upgrade if you want it fixed or pay over $900 to have a non-functioning system removed! We're still fighting with them to fix our system. … [cont.]

A. Egad, sorry to hear about your situation. Unfortunately I run into alot of people who have issues with poorly installed security systems and a lack of service - Just went to one yesterday and will be tearing it out next week. This is Particularly true when it comes to wireless, which is why I only install hardwire. First of all, what is the problem with the security system, maybe it is something that I can walk you through. I hate to see people paying for something they aren't using. Failing that, I would do the following: - document everything, every conversation you have with these "people", every letter, every invoice and of course every problem - tell them you are going to contact the media - tell them you want out of your contract… [cont.]

How much does the TripleSafe Sump Pump System cost to have installed in a home?
Q. Basement Systems provides a patented sump pump system called the TripleSafe Sump Pump System. We have severe water flooding issues in our home. But, they do not say what the cost of installing this system would be. Does anyone have this system? If so, how much did it cost, and how well does it work?

A. The cost is determined how elaborate u want. This can only be determined by a few bids from a contractor. My simple guess is around $2500. or more.

A. It will be impossible to find a "quality" home theater setup for less than 200 dollars. That being said, you can get a sub-par setup for less than 200, and i would say that a bad system is better than no system. :) I got mine for $760 dollars on amazon. It's a 7.1 channel, and it supports the new high definition audio formats.

Can a reverse osmosis system filter softened water?
Q. I am planning to soften my water for all round benifit in the home. I also want to purify my drinking water through a reverse osmosis system. Can these 2 things be used together or can only 1 system be used? If they can be used together can a reverse osmosis system purify softened water safely for drinking?
Asked by themanwho - Sun Jun 21 10:29:55 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Short answer is Yes You can use the RO to filter the softened water. A decent RO system will also have pre and post filters. A 5 to 10 micron prefilter protects the RO filter membrane from being plugged up by particulate matter in the water. An activated carbon post filter improves taste and polishes the RO water. Treated RO water is then stored in a small accumulator (pressure tank with a bladder in it) . Treating water with an RO filter tacks some time and uses water in roughly a 5:1 ratio. Send 5 gallons of water to the RO to get 1 gallon of treated water the remaining water is then sent to a drain. As a result you use RO water for drinking and maybe supplying water to an Ice maker. The unit will treat a gallon or two and store… [cont.]

A point if the two lines intersect. b.)If the 2 lines are parallel, then the 2 lines never intersect or have a solution. c.) If the 2 systems of equation represent the same line, then the will have infinitely many solutions. Graphing a system of inequalities gives you shaded areas where the solutions are. Here is the table a- forced air b. Floor radiant c. Register radiant water d. A. Most schools operate on the semester system. Fall semester is from mid or late August to mid December. Spring semester is from early or mid January to mid May. Then in the summer you usually have two summer sessions where you can usually take 2 classes per session. The quarter system divides the year up into 4 quarters, 3 months each. You don't take as many classes as a regular semester because the time period is shorter and you have to cover more material per class session. Many quarter system students go year around. I think it's a personal preference, but I would prefer the semester system because you can have more time to concentrate on your classes and learn the material in greater depth. A. If you want it that limited in response, they'd be out of jobs because there are NO forms to file. No more business tax either.

How does the system that changes stoplights work?
Q. At busy intersections with lights for left turns separate from the regular stoplight, I see a part of the pavement in the left turn lane that looks like a circular patch of it has been removed and put back, most likely with something underneath it. Is this some kind of pressure plate system? A metal detector underneath? How does this work. The left turn light only turns green when a car is on top of it. Keep in mind, I live in the Los Angeles area, maybe different cities use different systems

A. They didn't take a chunk out of the road, they just cut a groove in the road that went in a circle. They wrapped several loops of electrical wire in the groove, then sealed it up. They made a coil. Now have you ever seen computer cables where they make a loop or two around this funny lump of metal? Same basic idea. When your car pulls over it, it becomes the "metal". And that changes the electrical behavior of the coil. So they know a car's there. Needless to say, bicyclists don't like this system very much!

How do I add water to a hot water heating system?
Q. My hot water heating system boiler pressure is too low and I am pretty sure that the problem is not enough water in the system to maintain pressure (and hence heat) to the second floor of my house. Yes, I have done the usual bleeding of radiators and even drained the expansion tank. [Do you think I should do these again?] It seems that this system is set up to automatically fill but clearly the pressure is too low for a two story job and obviously there is some method to adding water. There are what appears to be two ways to direct water to the boiler/system but both feed from the cold water supply to the house. One is by way of a shut off valve to a reducing valve to the boiler and the other is by way of a shut off valve to a [??? with… [cont.]

A. Well, from the sounds of things, your auto-fill valve may not be working. The fill valve should be the one that comes from the domestic water supply through the pressure regulator to the boiler(the other device sounds like a flow restrictor valve that limits how much hot water flows out of the tankless coil or a tempering valve that regulates the domestic water temperature). The unit with the built-in regulator should have a small brass lever on the top that when you lift up on it, bypasses the regulator(usually set to 12psi) and directs line pressure into the heating system. Anywhere between 15-25(most boiler pressure relief valves are set to pop off at 30psi) should be about where you need to be. If increasing the system pressure works(by [cont.]

A. Photobucket is a great web based and FREE editing tools. The software behind it comes from Adobe who make some of the best commercial ($$$) photo and video editors. If you need/want more features downloading VideoSpin or VideoThang are great options. Still free, but you have to download the software. For under $100 you can buy Adobe Premiere Elements.
