What is the difference in terms of validity between surveys and field studies?
Q. I have a question for an exam tomorrow which I am slight confused on. I understand the differences in terms of external, internal and construct validity, but am confused on how to apply them to survey methods and field studies.

A. Surveys, field studies, and other types of research done in naturalistic settings would have higher external validity because they occur in real world settings. For a field study to have high validity (any type), the survey method or instrument needs to be able to measure what it's supposed to measure (construct validity). For example, a pathological behavior checklist done by a researcher at a school needs to actually pathological behavior and not something else, like intelligence.
